Mesopotamia Station Tour (160km)

Full Day Tour

This tour goes into the Rangitata valley where the Lord of the Rings movie was filmed.

We depart from Geraldine at 8:30am and travel via the Rangitata Gorge to Mesopotamia Station viewing the magnificent scenery on the way.

  • Check out the Wild Tahr enclosure
  • View Dr Sinclair's grave along with those of other interesting people laid to rest in the local cemetery.
  • See the Mesopotamia school buildings and explore the woolshed and historic stables on this working sheep station.
  • Enjoy lunch on a ridge overlooking the Rangitata valley with wonderful views all around you while you hear the sky larks sing over-head above the sound of the running water from the mountain springs.
  • Take a 'Station Safari' across the tussock covered hills beneath the Sinclair Range and stroll in the native beech forest listening to the birds.

This is a really great trip taking in a lot of local history and some magnificent scenery. You will be able to absorb the mountain atmosphere from the comfort of one of our air conditioned four wheel drive vehicles, or if you wish to stroll along the track you can get a closer feel of this great country.

We return to Geraldine around 4:30pm.
